Miscellaneous Information

Dr. Daria Babushok is a hematology-oncology fellow at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Her research interests focus on the molecular events underlying disease progression and response to therapy in patients with acquired bone marrow failure syndromes.

Preferring to be called Dasha, Dr. Babushok received her MD and PhD degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied biology of the only active human mobile element, LINE-1 retrotransposon, in the laboratory of Dr. Haig Kazazian. Her work on the mechanism of LINE-1 genome integration provided the first characterization of a large number of de novo LINE-1 insertions in a mammalian model, and challenged the prevailing paradigm by demonstrating somatic retrotransposition. She completed residency in internal medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by additional clinical training as a fellow in hematology-oncology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She joined the lab in July of 2012.
